University Seal
• The center of the seal is Thao Suranaree, the highly revered national heroine from the Northeastern region of Thailand, with four laterally connecting and overlapping concave arcs forming a dome, with stylized leaves and machine cogs underneath her.
• Thao Suranaree, the center of the Seal, conveys SUT’s philosophy and principal missions, stressing respect and faith in Thao Suranaree as a National Heroine.
• The four laterally connecting and overlapping concave arcs forming a dome over the statue, connotes continuous technological success and unceasing progress.
• Stylized leaves and machine cogs underneath the statue symbolize agriculture and industry.
SUT Tree
SUT’s tree is Radermachera ignea (Kurz) Steenis whose common Thai name is “Peep Thong” and whose flowers are orange, one of SUT’s colors. Requiring little care, the tree grows quickly even in unfavorable soil or climatic conditions. With its large canopy, the tree symbolizes simplicity, endurance, progress, and tranquility.
SUT Colors
- Orange is the emblematic color of the Nakhon Ratchasima Province, after the color of its Scout Corps bestowed by HM King Rama VI. The color orange is also the color for Thursday, traditionally recognized in Thai education as Teacher’s Day.
- Gold signifies prosperity, glory, and faith.
Academic gowns
There are 6 types of academic gowns in total: 3 for graduates and 3 for teachers and administrators.
1. The Bachelor’s Degree gown is a dark-gray calf-length academic dress. The front of the gown is split and stitched with 8 cm wide red-orange fabric strips and a zipper. The sleeves are wide and lengthy to the wrist and pleated at the shoulders. At the edge of each sleeve, a 3.8 cm wide red-orange fabric strip is stitched in the middle of a 26 cm wide golden fabric strip horizontally. Two academic pins are attached to the red-orange fabric strips at the breast portion of the front of the gown.
2. The Master’s Degree gown is a dark-gray calf-length academic dress. The front of the gown is split and stitched with 8 cm wide red-orange fabric strips and a zipper. The sleeves are wide and lengthy to the wrist and pleated at the shoulders. At the edge of each sleeve, two 3.8 cm wide red-orange fabric strips are stitched at the top and bottom of a 26 cm wide golden fabric strip horizontally. Two academic pins are attached to the red-orange fabric strips at the breast portion of the front of the gown.
3. The Doctor of Philosophy gown is a dark-gray calf-length academic dress. The front of the gown is split and stitched with 8 cm wide red-orange fabric strips and a zipper. The sleeves are wide and lengthy to the wrist and pleated at the shoulders. At the edge of each sleeve, three 3.8 cm wide red-orange fabric strips are stitched at the top, middle and bottom of a 26 cm wide golden fabric strip horizontally. Two academic pins are attached to the red-orange fabric strips at the breast portion of the front of the gown.
4. The Lecturer gown is a dark-gray calf-length academic dress. The front of the gown is split and stitched with 8 cm wide red-orange fabric strips and a zipper. The sleeves are wide and lengthy to the wrist and pleated at the shoulders. At the edge of each sleeve, five red-orange fabric strips are stitched on the golden fabric strip horizontally. The shoulders from the front to the back are covered with a triangular golden fabric stitched with the gown. Two academic pins are attached to the red-orange fabric strips at the breast portion of the front of the gown.
5. The President gown is a dark-gray calf-length academic dress. The front of the gown is split and stitched with 8 cm wide red-orange fabric strips and a zipper. The sleeves are wide and lengthy to the wrist and pleated at the shoulders. At the edge of each sleeve, five red-orange fabric strips are stitched on the golden fabric strip horizontally. The shoulders from the front to the back are covered with a triangular golden fabric stitched with the gown. Two academic pins are attached to the red-orange fabric strips at the breast portion of the front of the gown and a breast chain is worn.
6. The President of the University Council gown is a dark-gray calf-length academic dress. The front of the gown is split and stitched with 8 cm wide red-orange fabric strips and a zipper. The sleeves are wide and lengthy to the wrist and pleated at the shoulders. At the edge of each sleeve, four red-orange fabric strips are stitched on the golden fabric strip horizontally. The shoulders from the front to the back are covered with a triangular golden fabric stitched with the gown. Two academic pins are attached to the red-orange fabric strips at the breast portion of the front of the gown and a breast chain is worn.
University Song
The university is a social institution that uses music. Symbolizes many occasions, both in the ritual and in various activities. The song will be inserted until it is part of the University life.
